The QuickStart Tennis Play Format

The Midwest Youth Team Tennis program is the largest tennis program for children 10 years and younger in the Midwest. Featuring the QuickStart Tennis play format, which uses age appropriate equipment and courts scaled to the size of the players, Midwest Youth Team Tennis makes the game more accessible -and more fun- by allowing kids to get involved right from the start.

Key Scoring Terms

Point: 

A point is scored once a player is unable to return the ball over the net. It is the smallest unit of scoring in tennis.

Game: 

A game is won when a player earns a certain number of points. Depending on your age level, a game can be the first to 4 points or the first to 7 points.

Set: 

A set is a collection of games that have been completed. A player wins a set when they win a certain number of games. Some age groups have sets that play until the first player wins 6 games, and other age groups play until the first player wins 4 games.

Match: 

A match is the final collection of points, games and sets. Matches for most age groups are played until the first person wins 2 sets (also known as best of 3).

 

Age Group Scoring

8 & Under Age Group:

The first team or player to win 7 points wins a game. Games are played until one team or player wins 2 games which ends the match.

10 & Under Age Group:

The first team or player to win 4 points wins a game. The first team or player to win 4 games wins a set. Matches are won by the team or player that wins the best of 3 sets (first team to 2 sets).

12 & Over Age Group:

The first team or player to win 4 points wins a game. The first team or player to win 6 games wins a set. Matches are won by the team or player that wins the best of 3 sets (first team to 2 sets).
